Frequently Asked Questions
What are the main differences between the Classic Editor and the block editor?
The block editor offers a modern, drag-and-drop interface that makes creating rich, interactive layouts simple. Each piece of content is a “block” (like text, images, buttons, or embeds), giving users more flexibility compared to the single text area of the Classic Editor.
Which features of the block editor do content creators find most useful?
Content creators love the block editor’s easy layout customization, one-click media embedding, document outline for structure, reusable blocks, and live design previews that show changes instantly — all from an intuitive, code-free interface. Patterns unlock a world of pre-existing layouts that exponentially speed up content creation.
What happens to my old content once the block editor is enabled?
All your existing content remains safe. WordPress automatically wraps it in a “Classic block,” preserving formatting and letting you edit just like before, or convert into individual blocks whenever you’re ready.
Once I enable the block editor, will old posts break when I go to edit them?
No, old posts won’t break. Their formatting and appearance will stay intact, and you can continue editing with the Classic block inside the new editor if needed.
Will using the block editor affect how my website currently looks or functions?
Switching to the block editor does not change your website’s appearance or disrupt how it works. Your published content stays the same unless you choose to update or redesign it with new block features.
Do I have to migrate all existing posts to the block editor immediately, or can I do it gradually?
You can migrate at your own pace. Convert posts and pages to blocks one at a time, whenever it suits your schedule; there’s no need to rush. Or, you can simply leave your existing content as-is and start creating your new content with blocks going forward.
Can I continue using the Classic Editor for some posts while using blocks for others?
Yes, you can use the Classic Editor for some content and the block editor for new or converted posts, giving you full control over which editor is used for each item. It’s a great way to slowly transition your site one section at a time.
Is the block editor difficult to learn? Are there training or support options available for editorial teams during the transition?
The block editor is designed to be user-friendly and approachable, with drag-and-drop functionality and visual previews. Training and support options—including online guides and onsite workshops—are available to help editorial teams become confident block editor users.
